Dr. Steven Speaker is a native of Santa Maria. He grew up surfing at Pismo beach and playing football for the Righetti Warriors. After serving a two-year mission for his church in Rome, Italy, Dr. Speaker returned to attend Allan Hancock College.
With his language background in Italian, Dr. Speaker was able to learn Spanish and serve as a translator during a month long dental service trip to South America. Dr. Speaker quickly fell in love with dentistry as he saw how improving these young Ecuadorians smiles improved their confidence.
He went on to receive his Bachelor's degree from Brigham Young University where he met his wife, Heidi. They were married during his first semester of dental school in San Francisco at University of the Pacific.
Dr. Speaker graduated at the top of his class in dental school and went on to specialize as an orthodontist. He chose this specialty so that he could use his artistic abilities to design smiles that would improve the self-esteem of the youth in his community. He is finishing his third year of specialization at Roseman University of Health Sciences near Las Vegas, Nevada and decided to return to serve the Central Coast.
Dr. Speaker and his wife have a two-year-old daughter, a nine-month-old son, and a black lab. They enjoy playing beach volleyball at Pismo and eating the local food at the farmer’s markets. On most evenings, you can find Dr. Speaker and his wife working out at the gym or going to the park with their kids and dog.
